Orana Hunter Connections and Beyond: Golden Highway Transport Study
The Golden Highway serves as the backbone of the Orana region’s economy. It supports more than 2.5 million tonnes of freight across the region, travelling by road and rail. The volume is expected to rise to 6.3 million tonnes over the next decade due to the expansion in renewable energy and mining sectors throughout the region.
The Golden Highway Transport Study was created by RDA Orana to investigate the drivers of freight demands to support development of business cases for road and rail transport solutions between Narromine and Newcastle.
RDA Orana received funding from the NSW State Government’s Regional NSW Business Case Strategy Development Fund to complete this independent study.
The completed business cases have been submitted to the NSW State Government to help inform and develop solutions to address the identified transport infrastructure needs. The proposed outcomes include:
- Enhancing and streamlining freight transportation through strategic developments
- Fostering dynamic precincts to drive regional growth and innovation
- Expanding and enhancing airport and defence capabilities
- Boosting regional connectivity and safety through strategic enhancements and upgrades.
RDA Orana’s comprehensive study provides valuable insights into the region's current transport landscape. This knowledge empowers the community to navigate towards a more prosperous and resilient future by pinpointing essential developments. The study will help plan regional growth, enhance connectivity and support strategic advancements across the Orana region.
