A coordinated approach to strategic workforce planning

The Townsville and North West Queensland (TNWQ) region boasts a project pipeline exceeding $27 billion with 30 per cent already funded. Recognising the need for strategic workforce planning, RDA TNWQ Committee partnered with the Regional Jobs Committee to devise a framework. The framework was designed to ensure effective collaboration across industry sectors, all government levels, educational institutions and community organisations.

The framework is focused on the following four key pillars:

  • Pillar 1 Attraction: RDA TNWQ developed a jobs portal, successfully marketing regional opportunities and community attractions.
  • Pillar 2 Influence: The RDA TNWQ jobs portal, featuring industry-specific pages, has educated the community about various industry opportunities through region specific content.
  • Pillar 3 Participation: The RDA organised five expos targeting underrepresented groups, connecting over 500 job seekers with more than 100 businesses ready to hire.
  • Pillar 4 Business Process: A Business Workforce Breakfast brought together over 200 stakeholders to discuss evolving employment landscapes. This breakfast supported the launch of a resource guide to modernise local business practices and recruitment strategies.

The RDA TNWQ's strategic framework fosters collaboration and engagement among stakeholders, effectively paving the way for a robust workforce to support the region's growth.
