Investing in People - Special Commendation: RDA South West (WA)
Regional capacity building and partnerships
RDA South West developed a program to build the capacity of local government professionals, enhancing their ability to push traditional boundaries and take a strategic approach to addressing regional needs.
The program aimed to improve knowledge, capacity and networks and provided opportunities to enhance project collaboration, work with First Nations people, share knowledge and form stakeholder relationships.
The program involved capacity building across two streams:
- Regional Economic Development Officers (REDOs)—Capacity development for existing and emerging local government economic development professionals. The program evolved to include First Nations people outside of local government, to support diverse community needs.
- Net Zero Partnership—Helping existing and emerging sustainability local government professionals build towards a regional Net Zero target.
The REDOs agenda included foundational economic development topics, strategic planning, statistics, partnerships and clusters. These learning components then formed a series of monthly learning bites. The program invited specialists to run focused sessions to tailor learnings to specific needs.
RDA South West improved local government professionals' skills and networks, promoting strategic regional development and sustainability to achieve Net Zero targets across the region.
