Gold Coast Emerging Biomedical Industry Project

The Gold Coast Emerging Biomedical Industry Project, a first of its kind in the country, was initiated and developed by RDA Gold Coast. This strategic initiative is designed to bolster and generate growth of the biomedical sector on the Gold Coast.

To lead the research, RDA Gold Coast completed:

• Stakeholder Engagement: Conducted comprehensive research and engagement with key stakeholders across hospitals, universities, government bodies, peak organisations, start-ups, and clinical trial units. This ensured collaboration across all levels of the health system, gathering insight to ensure a comprehensive mapping of the state of health services in the Gold Coast
• Capability Mapping and Growth Project Plan: Defining and mapping the biomedical industry, identifying strengths and competitive advantages. This plan projected a 10-year biomedical economic growth road map, highlighting employment and economic impact assessments.

The research lead to the development of the Gold Coast Biomedical Capability Guide to articulate the city's current capabilities and investment opportunities, including:

• Supply Chain Development: Identified gaps, opportunities and developed strategies to enhance supplier capabilities, attract new investments and business partnerships
• Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Integration: Reviewing ESG trends to ensure best practice is incorporated across the health network
• Benchmarking and Best Practices: Conducted a benchmarking analysis of the local biomedical industry against leading international industries to enhance and align it with the standards of global leaders in the field
• Strategic Action Plan: Formulated a 10-year action plan focusing on 4 pillars: People, Place, Partnership, and Policy.

The project aims to strengthen the local biomedical sector as a competitive force internationally. RDA Gold Coast is championing these efforts to boost Australia’s emerging biomedical industry, fostering an ecosystem that encourages innovation, collaboration, and improved health outcomes.
