Renewable Energy Readiness and Impact Study

RDA Gippsland is dedicated to tackling the issue of net zero and identifying opportunities in the renewable energy sector, while also ensuring that local communities, businesses, and industries are empowered to seize the opportunities presented by the expanding sector. This is being progressed through supporting a number of key projects, including:

• Gippsland New Energy Conference – a conference designed to engage community, business and industry in the opportunities of the renewable energy sector
• Gippsland Offshore Wind Energy Coalition GOWEC – an offshore wind advocacy coalition in Gippsland seeking to raise critical issues to support the development of the offshore wind industry in Australia.

Most notably RDA Gippsland supported the South Gippsland Shire and Latrobe City Council to undertake a renewable energy readiness and impact study. This study was created in anticipation of the Federal Government's declaration of Gippsland as Australia’s first offshore wind energy zone. 

The main driver of the project was the need to understand and strategically plan for long term renewable energy investment in order to optimise economic benefits. The findings have helped local governments identify key actions needed to achieve the Australian and Victorian Government’s offshore wind energy targets.

It has helped identify supply chain opportunities including recommendations for the development of construction, labour and trades, parts manufacturing, transport, logistics and professional services. It explores critical industry enabling functions such as housing, availability of serviced industrial land, health and childcare services as well as transport infrastructure. 

RDA Gippsland is dedicated to fostering these initiatives, empowering communities and businesses to capitalise on renewable energy opportunities by leading key projects and forging valuable partnerships. RDA Gippsland is instrumental in advancing the Victorian and Australian Government’s offshore wind energy targets, paving the way for a sustainable future.
