South West Skills Needs

Priority 1: Provide support to the South West's economic base, particularly in key employment opportunities including: mining, manufacturing, agriculture and forestry, tourism and the creative sector

What skills/experience will be needed from future committee members to achieve this priority?

  • Balancing the existing membership would benefit from persons having knowledge of one or more of the following areas: regional development, manufacturing, agribusiness, tourism and telecommunications/technology.
  • It is not expected that everyone knows everything, but a strong all-rounder would be highly considered. RDA South West is looking for those with developed leadership and governance skills.

Priority 2: Support the South West community through feedback to the Australian Government and supporting infrastructure investment

What skills/experience will be needed from future committee members to achieve this priority?

  • Applicants with a broad knowledge base and strong regional connections will be highly considered. We note that those with a mix of skills add greater value.
  • The value of each RDA member is the sum of their networks and ability to tap into areas that would be otherwise unavailable.

Priority 3: Champion the South West Blueprint agenda

What skills/experience will be needed from future committee members to achieve this priority?

  • Furthering the Blueprint agenda requires strategic thinking, exceptional networks and regional knowledge of the whole South West.
  • Suitable applicants from a local government background will be highly considered, particularly those applicants with an understanding of strategic planning. Local government applicants must represent, and work for, the whole region and be able to command a regionwide respect.
  • Leading RDA South West members are highly respected and embedded in the community through professional and social linkages.

Geography

Is geographic representation important to achieve the RDA committee's priorities?

  • Yes.

Which geographic areas require greater representation from future members?

  • Special consideration will be given to EOIs from those applicants with an understanding of the Southern Forests and/or Collie areas.

Other Comments

  • RDA-SW would welcome applications from all qualified candidates and will look to balance sectoral knowledge, experience and gender.
  • The current RDA-SW membership would be strengthened by those with knowledge and expertise in: primary industries, manufacturing, technology/telecommunications and Aboriginal affairs.
