Tasmania Skills Needs

Priority 1: Expand and grow economic activity in Tasmania

What skills/experience will be needed from future committee members to achieve this priority?

  • Skills in the manufacturing sector, particularly specialized maritime and mining and the food and tourism and arts sector.
  • Skills in the agriculture sector, particularly poppy, dairy and viticulture.
  • Skills in the transport sectors (particularly freight).

Priority 2: Increase literacy, education and skill levels within the Tasmanian community

What skills/experience will be needed from future committee members to achieve this priority?

  • Maintain committee membership links to University of Tasmania, encourage membership from vocational education sector and compulsory education sector (i.e. yr 12's and under).

Priority 3: Address the needs of Tasmania's changing demographic profile

What skills/experience will be needed from future committee members to achieve this priority?

  • Understanding the link between a healthy population, productive population, population growth, Tasmania's demographic profiles and economic growth.

Geography

Is geographic representation important to achieve the RDA committee's priorities?

  • Yes.

Which geographic areas require greater representation from future members?

  • Current representation is adequate, any membership changes requires maintenance of equitable distribution.
