Wide Bay Burnett Skills Needs

Priority 1: Driving economic prosperity and job and wealth creation for the entire Wide Bay Burnett region

What skills/experience will be needed from future Committee/Board members to achieve this priority?

  • Previous experience in economic development is preferred, as is a minimum of five years' experience owning/managing a business/agricultural enterprise or an employee at management level or director status. Experience in education and training and understanding the requirements for the Wide Bay Burnett region also would be highly regarded.
  • A solid understanding of historical and current regional issues and opportunities and an ability to engage with key stakeholders, both public and private, to enhance the RDA's position.
  • An ability to adopt a strategic view to position the Wide Bay Burnett as the destination of choice for people to visit, live, work and invest.

Priority 2: Strengthening the regional profile and enhancing investment in priority projects and infrastructure

What skills/experience will be needed from future Committee/Board members to achieve this priority?

  • A desire to collaborate with government and community representatives at all levels to strengthen the region and showcase its unique selling points and articulate its diverse opportunities.
  • An understanding of the major industries and priority infrastructure projects across the six local government areas that combine to form Wide Bay Burnett.
  • Local government experience would be valuable, management or elected, and be able to bring a local government perspective from across the region.
  • A genuine desire to make a difference for the region as a volunteer and a commitment to actively participate in monthly committee meetings and other responsibilities as required.

Priority 3: Maximising the resource sector opportunity by enhancing Wide Bay Burnett as a FIFO Workforce Hub

What skills/experience will be needed from future Committee/Board members to achieve this priority?

  • Previous resource sector experience in mining, construction, logistics and/or public service with established relevant networks would be an asset.
  • An understanding of the Australian resource sector and the opportunities its offers to create jobs and wealth for Wide Bay Burnett.

Is geographic representation important to achieve the RDA committee's priorities?

  • Yes.

Which geographic areas require greater representation from future members?

  • North Burnett, South Burnett, Bundagerg, Fraser Coast, Gympie, Cherbourg

Other Comments

  • RDA WBB represents the entire Wide Bay Burnett which is a diverse region with different strengths and priorities. The committee is reflective of this diversity and expertise is sought across a broad spectrum of skills and knowledge. The committee will look for talented leaders in their chosen field of expertise that will allow for a truly representative and forward-thinking committee which can guide and deliver chosen outcomes.
