Far West Skills Needs

Priority 1: Economic diversity, investment and employment generation

What skills/experience will be needed from future committee members to achieve this priority?

  • Awareness of regional economic development and market engagement.
  • Awareness of economic opportunities.
  • Ability to drive growth.
  • Understand regional workforce and skill needs to attract and retain a highly skilled workforce and increase productivity.
  • Understanding of and experience in the development of business cases (exec level) and the ability to determine and articulate economic benefits of projects.

Priority 2: Infrastructure

What skills/experience will be needed from future committee members to achieve this priority?

  • Ability to identify and promote the regions significant economic infrastructure priorities to increase productivity and connectivity.
  • Understanding of transport and logistics and other infrastructure needs particularly supporting economic development
  • Knowledge of the digital economy, the needs and challenges of businesses, social inclusion issues, NFP service providers and their challenges and general economic conditions.

Priority 3: Population growth and retention of young people

What skills/experience will be needed from future committee members to achieve this priority?

  • Ability to identify projects that will benefit the region and the ability to highlight and attract partners to work with, strong regional history/background knowledge.
  • Experience in place based marketing
  • Experience/leadership in the provision of youth employment and services
  • Analytical skills and demonstrated innovation capacity
  • Experience/skills in the tertiary education (University) sector to create closer links between research and industry and build options and opportunities for the region.

Geography

Is geographic representation important to achieve the RDA committee's priorities?

  • Yes.

Which geographic areas require greater representation from future members?

  • Geographical representation is important but not critical, skills will be the primary determinant for new members. All members of RDA FW will strive for the growth and development of the region as a whole regardless of the geographical location or affiliation

Other Comments

RDA Far West have a strong committee with diverse skills and backgrounds, the organisation has achieved growth and positive outcomes over several years and now seeks the skills and experience of additional Committee members.

Our new members will bring functional leadership experience, previous community involvement and strong business networks bearing in mind the requirements identified above.
