RDA Townsville and North West Queensland delivers collaborative approach to BBRF workshops

14 March 2017

RDA Townsville and North West Queensland recently undertook the challenge to deliver Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) Workshops across one quarter of Queensland and 15 local government areas from regional to very remote areas.

From the time of the initial announcements of BBRF in late November, RDA Townsville and North West Queensland began an active campaign of promoting the program including the development of a roadshow with the collaboration of a large number of stakeholders.  This included staff from the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, AusIndustry, Department of State Development, Department of Infrastructure and Local Government, TAFE and the Townsville Business Development Centre.

RDA CEO Glenys Schuntner travelled approximately 9,000 km by road and air to deliver 16 workshops.

“In the end we had a total of 100 participants attending the 6 workshops that were hosted by each of the 6 councils, with information delivered by 11 representatives of RDA, Federal and State Government programs. It was a great team effort and feedback was very positive from all involved”.

Road access and flooding were a challenge in the Gulf region. “The RDA approached REX Airlines who provided in-kind support for the RDA to fly to Burketown, Normanton and Mornington Island to deliver the BBRF workshops. REX were happy to support the RDA's efforts to bring more funding into the region to create jobs and business opportunities. Their support saved us more than $2,000 in airfares”, said Glenys.

“Collaboration on initiatives can sometimes take more time to get to the end point, but as demonstrated with the RDA workshop series, collaboration also provides far better outcomes for all involved. We firmly believe that forming such collaborative partnerships is a core role for RDA,” said Glenys.
