SEGRA 2016 Communiqué Now Available

Celebrating its 20-year anniversary, the 2016 SEGRA conference, which was held in Albany from 26 – 28 October, featured keynote addresses by Senator Dean Smith on behalf of Senator the Hon Fiona Nash, Minister for Regional Development; the Hon Stephen Jones MP, Shadow Minister for Regional Services, Territories and Local Government; and the Hon Terry Redman MLA, Western Australian Minister for Regional Development.
The conference theme, “Naturally Stronger Regions—Realising the Potential”, facilitated diverse discussions on a range of topics, including opportunities for entrepreneurship in regional Australia, the development of human capital in regional communities, regional leadership and community resilience, and emerging economic development opportunities across Australia's regions.
Key messages from conference participants included the need for communities to instigate change at the local level; the opportunities of embracing innovation; and the importance of community cohesion, collaboration and interaction.
