RDA Logan & Redlands inspiring economic growth with Business Idea Bootcamp

25 August 2016

RDA Logan & Redlands (QLD) has launched its Business Idea Bootcamp series with the goal of turning business ideas into business opportunities, and already the region is seeing results.

The Business Idea Bootcamp was launched in April 2016, bringing together a range of economic and innovation experts and practitioners from the tertiary, government, and commercial sectors, to help local Logan & Redlands entrepreneurs develop and test their business ideas.

The initial event saw over 50 people attend with ideas ranging from diverse sectors including art, music, engineering, tourism, marine, food production and recycling. A second Business Idea Bootcamp was held in May with further events to follow.

RDA Logan & Redlands Executive Officer, Mariae Leckie, believes that events like the Business Idea Bootcamp are necessary for people in Logan & Redlands to learn how to successfully communicate a good idea quickly and effectively, to attract partners, investors, and customers.

The industry experts shared skills and tools to assist them to formulate a compelling business case that would attract partners and investors. Participants were then given the opportunity to deliver and refine their business pitches in a ‘real world’ scenario, with prizes awarded.

People's Choice award winner, Sally Terare of ‘Sall's Art Creations’ is one of the participants that has gone on to turn her idea into reality over the last few months:

“Winning ‘People's Choice’ in the Business Bootcamp Part Two ‘Pitch Perfect’ event illuminated my personal growth. As a full time mother and university student who is majority of the time at home, this award has boosted my confidence in public speaking and venturing out more; having knocked out the initial fear I had developed to share my concept with people. Now, I embrace the sharing opportunity and have achieved so much in the way of business development and network support,” said Ms Terare.

“I am delighted to be currently undertaking an artistic project for a company in the region which is a fantastic introduction to exhibiting my art in weeks to come and hope to share with you once the project is complete!”
