RDA Northern Melbourne bringing the tertiary sector together to foster regional innovation

A landmark report prepared by RDA Northern Melbourne (VIC) and partners is leading to unprecedented cooperation by tertiary institutions and commercial enterprise to support innovation and address the future skills needs of Melbourne's North.
The Future Workforce: Melbourne's North was prepared byNorthern Melbourne RDA and local industry organisation NORTH Link, in collaboration with the eight councils of Melbourne's North, the Metropolitan Planning Authority, La Trobe University, RMIT University and the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development, who also funded the project.
Thereport has led to formation of the Heads of Tertiary Education Group, comprising the Vice Chancellors of La Trobe University and RMIT University, and the CEOs of Melbourne Polytechnic and the Kangan Institute.
Key issues analysed in the report are:
- the current education and training, industry employment, and skills demand profiles for Melbourne's North; and
- future opportunities for Melbourne's North to grow employment and develop future skills that align with industry requirements.
Thereport utilised extensive independent research conducted by National Economics, provides a blueprint for matching education and training with future industry occupations and skills demand across the region.
It presents a 7-step employment and skills strategy for Melbourne's North over the next decade will ensure local industry access to a skilled workforce and modern infrastructure for innovation and growth.
