RDA Committees in Queensland are funded by the Australian Government and administered by the Australian Government Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

In Queensland there are 12 RDA Committees covering all areas of the State including the Torres Strait Islands and metropolitan Brisbane.

The Queensland RDA Committees work with all three tiers of government, regional business and the wider community to boost the economic capability and performance of their region.

In Queensland, RDA Committees:

  • are responsible for detailed regional plans that focus on the economic development of their region, taking into account relevant Commonwealth, state, territory and local government plans,
  • provide independent advice to government on critical issues affecting their region,
  • work closely with community leaders to identify priority activities that will drive regional economic development,
  • provide assistance to local communities to identify funding sources and develop project proposals to support economic growth, and
  • promote awareness of government programmes in the RDA community.

Also various groups of Queensland RDA Committees work collaboratively to identify common issues and priorities affecting broader regions of the State and Commonwealth such as Northern Australia, Northern Queensland and South East Queensland.
