RDA Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula (South Australia) attended the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) 2012 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from 15-21 June 2012.

ATE 2012 is Australia’s premier tourism industry trade event and is the largest annual tourism trade show of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The business-to-business event brings together around 1700 delegates from approximately 600 Australian tourism operators with close to 700 tourism wholesalers and retailers from 40 countries around the world.

RDA Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula recently established the Eyre Peninsula Tourism Target Team to identify industry-wide needs, address key tourism issues and encourage industry collaboration. The team provides high level strategic advice to the RDA Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula committee members and members were present at the ATE 2012 to promote the region.

RDA Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula and the Eyre Peninsula Tourism Target Team attended ATE 2012 with the aim of gaining insight into the international markets and identifying the regional strengths and weaknesses to promote tourism in the region.

RDA Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula Tourism Development Manager Brad Riddle said the Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula region was represented by seven tourism operators, which was one of the largest collectives of operators from any tourism region in South Australia.

“The Eyre Peninsula is still an emerging destination for many international markets however the majority of buyers were very interested in the Eyre Peninsula’s unique mix of wildlife encounters, world class seafood, pristine waters and outback experiences,” Mr Riddle said.

“I would like to thank those operators who attended ATE 2012 on behalf of the region for their continued efforts in marketing the Eyre Peninsula to international tourists. The region as a whole also benefits from this marketing and each of the operators should be applauded for their efforts.”

The next ATE will be held in Sydney from 26 April to 2 May 2013.
