RDA Townsville explores scientific research opportunities

RDA Townsville and North West (Queensland) recently held an event to explore the great wealth and depth of scientific research, knowledge, expertise and education in the region.

The Inspiring Tropical Australia Breakfast was designed to provide opportunities for business growth and future career paths in science research and development capability to existing and new industries. The event was held at Jupiters Townsville Hotel and Casino on Tuesday 17 July and was attended by approximately 70 people.

The keynote speaker was John Gunn, CEO of Australian Institute of Marine Science, who talked about science, the off-shore oil and gas industry, and lessons for coastal development.

Other topics of discussion included applying scientific methods to water management, technology and innovation, and scientifically robust monitoring programs in the Port of Townsville.

Attendees at the event included local scientists, business people, business facilitators and government representatives.

RDA Townsville and North West received positive feedback from the event with most attendees indicating they would come again. The event also received local media coverage.
