RDA Executive Officers meet in WA

Published: 8th August 2012

Executive Officers from the nine Western Australia RDA committees met in Perth recently to explore common issues and to identify projects that could be established across regional boundaries.

The meeting was the first dedicated gathering of Executive Officers in Western Australia since the commencement of the RDA network in 2009. The Executive Officers were able to share some of the positive outcomes that each committee is achieving in their region and share information on each region’s ‘hot issues’.

The group’s discussions highlighted a number of prospects for collaboration and in particular the Australian Government’s rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN), which provides a range of opportunities for each RDA committee to work within their local areas and beyond.

The group discussed a variety of programs and strategies that would support communities to become NBN ready and enable each RDA to partner with key stakeholders.

Areas of common interest discussed included aged care facilities, regional economic infrastructure, regional tourism, natural resource management and community development issues.

The group also met with State Government counterparts and Perth based representatives from the Department of Regional Australia, Local Government, Arts and Sport. The Executive Officers also attended a Telework Seminar hosted by the Australian Information Industry Association.
