New advisory committee for Whyalla
Published: 19th July 2012
RDA Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula (South Australia) will establish a dedicated advisory committee in conjunction with Whyalla City Council to discuss and address infrastructure and economic needs of the city.
The target team will identify and prioritise current and future economic and community infrastructure projects.
The initiative was featured in a news story in the Whyalla News newspaper on 12 July 2012.
RDA Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula Economic Development Manager Alex Todd told the Whyalla News that the team would comprise eight members made up of Whyalla City Council elected members, RDA staff, council staff and stakeholders.
Mr Todd said the group would focus on major projects and discuss possible resources to assist the development of such projects.
“The focus of this team will be on community infrastructure, trying to identify projects for Whyalla and the surrounding region and then to prioritise them and take a strategic approach and seek resources for them,” Mr Todd told Whyalla News.
Similar target teams have been established by RDA committees in surrounding regions and Mr Todd said the success of such groups had driven the establishment of the local team.
Mr Todd said there were a number of potential resources available to assist projects getting off the ground, including government grants and commercial companies investing in the region.
The team will hold its first meeting on 18 July 2012, with monthly meetings being held until the team is fully established before it moves to bi-monthly meetings.
Mr Todd said two councillors had been nominated to join the team, and that names of all team members would be released in the near future.
